STEPS Training & Employment Preparation Services (S.T.E.P.S.)

The Employment Centre at STEPS allows individuals in early recovery to become job-ready in eight weeks. Candidates must be clean and sober for a minimum of 30 days to be eligible for this program. We also offer a four-week program in job readiness for those whose lives have been affected by a family member with addiction issues. These programs are offered at no cost to York Region residents who are unemployed or underemployed.

Computer Skills

We use IC3, the world’s fastest growing computer certification standard, as the basis for our digital literacy skills training program. Our clients receive training in the following skills:

Computer hardware and software
Internet and email
Microsoft Office 2003/2007

Employment Preparation

Participants will receive the tools and a realistic action plan to achieve a clear career goal. Included in the program: intake and assessment, one-to-one support, job search training workshops, and ongoing evaluation and support. Workshops include:

resume writing
interview skills
networking
labour market research

Life Skills

Our skills enhancement workshops helps individuals to build the confidence and soft skills required to find new employment. Some topics covered include:

self-assessment
goal setting
time management
change and transition

Job Placement

We provide job placement assistance to match employers with job-ready candidates that have been interviewed and screened by STEPS.
